On Sunday June 26th at 2 pm, Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will host Dr. Janet Mihuc of Paul Smith’s College as she introduces and explains Project Silkmoth, a citizen science program.
Project Silkmoth is a volunteer-based survey documenting the presence of Giant Silkmoths (family Saturniidae) in northern New York State. Sightings will be incorporated into a database and used to create occurrence maps for each species. The database will be a source of information about silkmoth species that are thought to be declining in the northeastern United States. During the program, Dr. Mihuc will speak on the silkmoth’s natural history, share how people can help document where these giant sized moths live, and teach on moth diversity.
There is a program fee of $4.00 per person or $12.00 per family, and children under 3 are free. The Amboy 4-H Environmental Educational Center is located at 748 Route 183, between Routes 13 and 69 near Williamstown.
