DATE FINALIZED: A debate between local mayoral candidates has been scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, October 14, at the Oswego High School. The three mayoral candidates (Amy Tresidder - D, Billy Barlow - R and Thomas Gillen - I) are expected to be in attendance and actively participating in this public event.

From the Office of County Legislator Amy Tresidder:

Calling public debate a critical part of the democratic process, Tresidder said voters deserve to see the city's issues discussed by the candidates: "Everyone knows the challenges Oswego faces. Merely complaining about snow removal and crime and taxes isn't enough to get elected. The voters will choose a mayor who is prepared to implement solutions, and this debate will give them a chance to see which candidate that is."

According to Tresidder's campaign staff, local media outlets have expressed interest in moderating the debate, the details of which are still being finalized. Tresidder has proposed Oswego High School as the venue so that members of the public can attend.

Interest in the debate is expected to be high, with the election seemingly headed to a historic outcome: if elected, councilman Barlow would be the city's youngest-ever mayor, and a victory for legislator Tresidder would make her the first female mayor in Oswego's history.

From the Office of City Councilor Billy Barlow:

Oswego Mayoral Candidate Billy Barlow expressed excitement today in establishing and participating in a moderated public debate.

“I’ve spent my summer knocking on doors and talking to the residents of this community and I look forward to explaining in detail how I intend to address their problems,” Barlow said. “I hope we can have a respectful, intelligent debate as I feel I offer a clear vision for our City and I’m open to debate anywhere, anytime.”

The Mayoral election will take place on November 3, 2015 where voters will have a chance to decide between City Councilor Billy Barlow, County Legislator Amy Tressider and current Mayor Thomas W Gillen. “I look forward to debating Legislator Tressider and Mayor Gillen and I’m happy to help our local media organize a debate,” Barlow concluded.

From the Office of Mayor Thomas W. Gillen:
