SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley issued the following statement following SUNY's announcement that Chancellor Nancy Zimpher would step down June 30, 2017:
College Life
Creating and teaching art runs in the Besl family, and parents and daughter display that vividly in the free public "Shared Heritage: A Collaborative Exhibition" through Aug. 19 at SUNY Oswego Metro Center's branch of Tyler Art Gallery on Clinton Square.
Once upon a time, movies and live music went hand in hand. Guitarist Alex de Grassi revives that tradition, performing his original score for the classic Japanese film "A Story of Floating Weeds" at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, in SUNY Oswego's Waterman Theatre.
Above, Guy Montag (Keith Gallucci), left, shows his growing disenchantment with fellow "firefighters" – whose job description includes finding and burning books and the homes of those who hide books – as the SUNY Oswego theater department's "Fahrenheit 451" enters its final weekend of performances. Other firefighters are, from left, Chief Beatty (Tyler Eldred), Black (Dante Giannetta) and Holden (Issack Cintron).
Frank Dietz – a former SUNY Oswego student, Hollywood jack-of-many-trades and award-winning filmmaker – will screen and talk about his and Trish Geiger's documentary "Beast Wishes: The Fantastic World of Bob and Kathy Burns" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the college's Campus Center auditorium.
Video, still photos and sound and scene design all will work to add sizzle to the SUNY Oswego theater department's Oct. 17-19 and 25-27 staging of "Fahrenheit 451," based on Ray Bradbury's iconic book and play about censorship of the written word.
SUNY Oswego's Family and Friends Weekend from Oct. 25-27 promises a rich mix of entertainment and tours, athletics and dining options as students welcome their loved ones to life on campus and the Oswego community.
SUNY Oswego will open an interactive exhibition of digital-print artist Cara Brewer Thompson's work with a free public reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Tyler Art Gallery.
The Oswego Jazz Project (OJP) will perform with well-known trombonist Keith Jackson at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, in SUNY Oswego's Sheldon Hall ballroom as part of the music department's Focus on Faculty Series.
