A community roundtable event concerning design of an interactive garden at SUNY Oswego will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in the community room of the Oswego City Library. No registration is necessary and all are invited.

The goal of the roundtable event is to join community members together on the design of an interactive garden and laboratory space on the SUNY Oswego campus. The project to transform a former construction staging area on campus took its initial steps last autumn, with the goal of creating an abundant, reparative garden and learning space for students as well as the Oswego community.

The garden is located adjacent to the Shineman Center, Lee Hall and Wilber Hall. Using permaculture principles and techniques, the garden will mimic natural systems to create a thoughtfully designed landscape that will maximize beneficial interactions among plant, animal and insect species. Upon maturity, the garden will also provide an abundance of nutrient rich food.

The permaculture garden and living lab is envisioned as a place to cultivate the beauty of the entire Oswego community, and organizers believe the opinions of the community are essential to its development.
