St. Luke Health Services is pleased to introduce Deacon John Woloszyn who has assumed a new role for the healthcare provider as Pastoral Care Coordinator.

As the Pastoral Care Coordinator, Deacon Woloszyn will minister to the spiritual needs of residents, families and staff. He will also be responsible for coordinating the many religious services held regularly on the St. Luke healthcare campus. His new duties also include his participation on Interdisciplinary Care and Palliative Care treatment teams.

Deacon Woloszyn is doing a survey of residents and their faith communities prior to coming to St. Luke, in an effort to keep residents connected the faith community that has been a part of their lives for a long time in many cases. Being connected to the Activities Department is giving Deacon Woloszyn the opportunity to bring large group and small group activities that are spiritually enriching to residents.

Deacon Woloszyn brings a wealth of experience ministering to the needs of people in a healthcare setting. Prior to joining St. Luke, he was active with Pastoral duties at Crouse Hospital, Iroquois Nursing Home and Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center in Syracuse. Deacon Woloszyn also teaches an overview class on Chaplaincy for future Deacons of the Diocese of Syracuse.

Deacon Woloszyn is an Ordained Roman Catholic Deacon through the Dioceses of Syracuse, but his duties will span across all denominations.

“While my Ordination is in the Roman Catholic faith,” said Woloszyn, “I have received a lot of training in ministering to the needs of people of many different backgrounds and stages of life who may be in need of support during difficult times. Nursing Homes are becoming more involved in Palliative Care and I feel that I can add very nicely to the team approach that St. Luke already had in place before I arrived.”

Deacon Woloszyn maintains an office located off the main lobby at St. Luke Health Services. He can also be reached by phone at 342-3166 extension 1241, or by email at JWoloszyn@stlukehs.com.
