Donald A. Parkhurst, 86, of Oswego, passed away Thursday evening in the Oswego Hospital.
He was born in the Town of Sterling and was the son of the late Roy E. and Annabelle McCann Parkhurst.
Mr. Parkhurst served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960. Donald had been employed as a Journeyman Electrician on numerous local construction projects, and he retired as a member of I.B.E.W. Local 328.
Following his retirement, Don and Bev enjoyed spending the winter months at their Florida home. Some of their pastimes were riding their bikes to the Tiki Bar in the Port Canaveral to watch the cruise ships come and go, cruising on their pontoon boat through the canal, and hosting their family. Mr. and Mrs. Parkhurst celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary in August 2024.
Some of Donald’s interests were fishing, boating, camping, and traveling with his family. In the most recent years, Donald enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, trips to the casino, poker and dice games, and never missed watching a televised New York Yankee game. Donald took pride in his home and his yard and enjoyed gardening, supervising projects his sons were completing for him, and relaxing by their pool. He is lovingly remembered for his quiet demeanor and quick wit. He was so proud of the family that he and Bev raised.
Mr. Parkhurst is survived by his wife Irene “Bev” Allen Parkhurst of Oswego, one daughter, Kimberly (Greg) Gilbert of Oswego, four sons, Donald (Chris Heydenreich) of Pennsylvania, Douglas (Donna) Parkhurst of Sodus and Florida, James (Linda) Parkhurst and Robert (Jennifer) Parkhurst both of Oswego, fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sisters Freida Stone and Eleanor Spicer, his brothers Gordon, David, Roy, and Richard, and an infant sister, Irene.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Mr. Parkhurst’s memory.
Arrangements are by the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
