Dr. Bart J. Natoli, 81, of Oswego, passed away at the fullness of life while at home surrounded by his wife and children.
"Doc," as he was affectionately known by his vast number of friends, went on to his great reward Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, after a long bout with cancer.
He lived a passionate life among family and friends he grew up with and those he befriended where ever he was – whether at the office where he practiced optometry, the bowling lanes, barbershop quartet, or at the lake where he was feared by bass and perch alike. He will be sorely missed, but greatly remembered.
Born in Oswego, he was a son of the late Bart J. and Jennie (Scandura) Natoli.
Bart was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1956-1958.
Dr. Natoli attended Niagara University and graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1956. He set up practice in Wappingers Falls and later in Oswego at 76 Liberty St., where he practiced from 1967 until retirement in 1996.
He bowled with a number of leagues for many years and is a member Bowling Hall of Fame. For many years he sang barbershop quartet and chorus of the Oswego Valley Chapter. Fishing was a passion of Dr. Natoli's, and he could often be found on his boat on the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands, where he maintained a camp. Doc was a loyal fan of the Syracuse Orangemen football and basketball teams.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Natoli; two daughters, Nancy J. (William) Finelli, of Schenectady and Jane-Ellen (Jeffrey) Delgado, of Herndon,Va.; a son, Bart J. (Barbara) Natoli Jr., of Atlanta, Ga.; two step sons, Gregory (Melissa) Hogan and Timothy (Audra) Hogan, both of Syracuse; a stepdaughter, Lisa (John) Smolen, of Syracuse; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one niece and nephew.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Dale (Pfeiffer) Natoli, in 1984.
Services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, at Nelson Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
