Dr. Richard Paul Peters, 85, of Franklin Avenue, Oswego, NY passed away April 7, 2017.
He was the son of the late John Peters and Vena (Bacon) of Watertown, NY.
Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 54 years, son Gregory, daughter-in-law Alexis and granddaughters, Katherine and Charlotte, of Clifton Park, NY.
Richard attended Cornell University, Erie County Technical Institute and received a doctorate from Illinois College of Optometry. He practiced over 25 years in Oswego.
He was a lifetime member of the American Optometric Association, and was a veteran of the US Army serving mostly in Alaska during the Korean conflict.
Richard was an avid reader, hunter and enjoyed raising and training dogs. Music was a big part of his life, especially big-band era and jazz. He played that old clarinet from a teenager to a senior citizen withe the New Horizons Band.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12th at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church of the Resurrection, 120 West Fifth St. Oswego.
