Duane R. Cory, 73, a resident of Scriba, passed away on May 25, 2024, after a 3-year battle with lung cancer.

Born in Oswego, Duane was a son of the late Raymond and Leona (Bracken) Corey, a mother who he loved dearly.

Upon graduating from Mexico High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. He reached veteran status after completing his service overseas where he served in the medical core. He served from 1969-1971. Duane was never too busy to stop another veteran or active member in the services to extend a hand and say, "Thank You for Your Service".

Duane worked at and retired from Fitzpatrick power plant where he created lifelong connections and friendships. One of his favorite things to do was catch up over a Retiree lunch with his work pals.

Duane was a proud member of AA for thirty-five years. Duane lived his life in the rooms of AA giving back to a community that he credits for giving him what he termed "a great life". He was also nicknamed "Boy Scout" by many of his AlAnon friends for always lending them a hand.

He was an avid race fan and worked the camera for the Oswego Speedway for many years where he cultivated an amazing racing family. He enjoyed watching Buffalo Bills football and Yankees baseball and going to Syracuse Basketball games. One of his life highlights was his daughter treating him to and attending a beloved SU game with him and being able to attend a Boeheim's Army game with her.

Duane was always good for a "Dad" joke. and making people laugh. He was dependable and always there for anyone whenever they needed him. He always had a smile on his face, to know him was to love him.

Duane is Survived by his wife and best friend, Shana Cory, a daughter, Cathy Cory Lucisano (Dom) of Rochester, a sister, Darlene Austin, two brothers, David Cory, and Dayne Cory, all of Scriba.

Duane also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and friends who loved him like family and although Duane had no biological grandchildren, he became an Honorary Grandpa to the Rose girls of Fulton wearing that title proudly. As well as Honorary Uncle to a few Mulverhill children of Oswego. Duane loved it when friends had children. His favorite thing to say was "I need to know what you are having so I know if I am going to be an "Aunt" or an "Uncle".
He was predeceased by two brothers, Darrell and Darwin, and stepfather, John.
He also leaves behind 2 loved Australian Cattle dogs, Lily and Luna to which he was a proud fur dad.
A private memorial service will be held in the future.
Arrangements are in the care of the Dowdle Funeral Home.
