Edward J. Sweeney, 78, a resident of Route 48 in Oswego, passed away Monday, at his home.

Mr. Sweeney was born in Oswego, the son of the late Mortimer and Rose (Regan) Sweeney. He was a life resident of the Oswego-Fulton area. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner of the Bowen's Corner General Store in the town of Granby. He had previously worked at the Miller Brewing Co. in Fulton, and the Breneman-Hartshorn factory in Oswego. He was a former communicant of Holy Family Church in Fulton, and was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Sweeney enjoyed gardening, and other outdoor work, and was an enthusiastic cook, baker, and card player.

He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Vandish of Mexico, NY; his grandson, Ethan Charles Anna of Cicero; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Amanda Anna, who died in 2012; a brother, Fred Sweeney; and a sister, Ann Wallace.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a time to be announced.

There will be no calling hours.
