Elizabeth "Peg" Burch, 90, a resident of the Ladies Home in Oswego, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse.

Born in Palermo, she was a daughter of the late Seymour and Hattie (Purfield) Smith.

She was an avid member of Oswego, Fulton, Granby, New Haven and Mexico senior citizens clubs, attending numerous dances and trips. She was also a member of Oswego Women's City Club and the Oswego Widow and Widowers Club. She enjoyed baking pies, cookies, and her homemade jam and chocolate cake.
Peg worked the election polls for 40 years in Oswego and volunteered at St. Luke's Nursing Home. She celebrated her 90th birthday this year with her family and friends at the Ladies Home, at which our local Elvis, "Tom Gilbo," was the entertainer.
Peg and her late husband were landlords, rehabbing and renting apartments.
They traveled extensively around the world and also hunted, fished and camped. Peg and Wayne were sorority parents for Oswego State. Peg devoted many years to raising her niece, Jennifer, who she truly enjoyed. Their relationship bond and love for one another was one-of-a-kind. Peg never had children of her own, so doting on Jennifer was her lives' enjoyment.

Surviving is her half sister, Gladys Lewis, of Fulton; grand-niece and primary caregiver, Jennifer Finn; four nieces, Cora Finn, Dawn Stowell, Doreen Steiner and Carol Chaisson; two nephews, L. Stephen Burch and Sherod Laliveres; companion Calvin Keller; her close friend at the Ladies Home, Pat Frulla; and several grand-nieces and-nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wayne P. Burch, in 1979; her brothers, John, Ronald and Charles Smith; and sisters, Doris Gates, Helen Halstead and Bertha Knight.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec.13, at Nelson Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Chase Cemetery, Lysander.

Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the funeral home, , 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
The family would like to thank the staff at the second floor Rehab Unit at Seneca Hill Manor and the Ladies Home for the love and care they gave Peg, and most notably, Dr. Padma Ram.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Ladies Home, 43 E. Utica St., Oswego, NY 13126.

Nelson Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
