Elizabeth Sullivan, daughter of John T. and the late Charlotte Sullivan of Oswego will be graduating with high honors (Summa Cum laude) from Hunter College in New York City effective May 15th, 2020.
Hunter is part of the City University of New York. The actual ceremony has been postponed until the fall, due to the pandemic. She is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Hunter College Chapter. Her degree is a batchelor’s degree in Fine arts, with a music major.
Elizabeth is an artist in her own right, having composed and performed in a wide array of forums for the last 15 years. She currently resides in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where she works part time as a private music instructor, giving lessons in guitar, piano and voice. She attended Ithaca College for two years as a vocal music major. She works on a part time basis for the School of Rock in Manhattan, where she trains students to perform in groups. She has also been a certified yoga instructor, and child care assistant.
Elizabeth got her musical training starting in St. Mary’s School, under the tutelage of Mrs. Sue Branshaw, and later at Leighton School under Mrs. Sue Swindells.
At Oswego High School , she sang under the direction of Mr. John Armstrong and Tony Joseph. She was a member of a teen age doo wop a capella group called the “Community Waterjugs,” which performed at a number of community events.
Elizabeth also was a featured soloist in many weddings in the Oswego area, and performed at Harborfest and at several other festivals. Her musical style has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez, and Sara McLaughlin.. Her sound is both renaissance rising and nascent new age, and her voice is both tremulous and sweetly tonal. She has performed individually and with groups at such venues as the famed “Bitter End” night club in NYS, and at several other NYC and Brooklyn cafes and coffee shops. Most recently, she appeared twice as a soloist at a weekly program featuring Marianne Williamson in New York City, just prior to Ms. Williamson’s Presidential bid.
Elizabeth is a prolific singer/songwriter, and has composed and recorded over 40 songs, and three albums, all containing original music, “ Carry me”, “Heart of the Matter”, and “Goddess Chant”. Her music is available on Itunes, Spotify, Youtube, and at www.ElizabethSullivanmusic.com . Her Plans include obtaining a teaching position in music, and completion of a Masters Degree program in music on a part time basis.
