The holiday season is fast approaching and purchasing a local Christmas tree is one way to get into the festive spirit. Did you know Oswego County’s Christmas tree industry ranks 9th in New York State?
In fact, Christmas tree growers across the county collectively sell around 15,000 trees per year on about 650 acres! Rest assured, no matter the shape or size, our Christmas tree growers are ready to help you find that perfect tree. To make the process easier, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County (CCE Oswego) has published the Oswego County Christmas Tree Farm Directory, and the 2023 directory is now available.
There are many benefits of purchasing a local Christmas tree. Getting a tree from a nearby farm ensures you receive the freshest tree possible. Not only do they smell better, but they also hold their needles for a longer period of time. Buying locally also supports Oswego County’s farm businesses, which helps keep local agriculture viable.
Shopping for a fresh Christmas tree can also be a wonderful multi-generational family experience. Will Ruby from Spring Pond Farm in Mexico, NY expressed excitement last year when he began to notice third generation family members coming to the farm. Seeing multiple generations is tribute to the fact that local Christmas tree growers take pride in making your visit the best experience possible. So, whether you are a regular purchaser of local Christmas trees or are getting a tree for the first time, take advantage of this opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy time together as a family this holiday season.
