Sheila Dion Recognized by United Way of Greater Oswego County for Dedication to feeding Hungry

The United Way of Greater Oswego County recently honored Erin's Angels of CNY founder and Executive Director Sheila Dion at their Annual Meeting held at Kristen’s Kitchen, Battle Island State Park in Fulton, NY. Ms. Dion was recognized as a “Community Champion” in honor of her service, advocacy and impactful support to the community, inspiring hope, healing and sparking change with his leadership and vision.

“United Way of Oswego County annually recognizes outstanding individuals for the impactful work they do to make our county a better place to live. Our Community Champion Award winner this year was an easy choice. Sheila Dion, Executive Director of Erin’s Angel’s, embodies the meaning of this award through her passion, drive and ability to mobilize the community to address childhood hunger in our county. Sheila’s tireless efforts of volunteerism, networking, advocating, and finding solutions to support our most vulnerable population was our reason to say ‘Thank you’ to her. Sheila is a leader in changing outcomes and impacting so many lives” stated Patrick Dewine, Executive Director, United Way of Greater Oswego County.

Ms. Dion established Erin’s Angels in 2017, transforming the tragic loss of 11-year-old Erin Maxwell into a powerful mission to create lasting change. Under her leadership, the organization has grown significantly, supported by a dedicated volunteer team committed to addressing food insecurity and protecting children in New York State.

The mission of Erin’s Angels is to mobilize the community, individuals and resources to provide food for kids in need.

“Because of Ms. Dion’s vision and the tireless work of her team, over 40,000 meals have found their way into the hands — and homes — of students who need them most. Each meal represents more than food: it’s security, hope, and a reminder that no child is ever forgotten. Sheila’s impact stretches far beyond numbers. It’s measured in the smiles, the sighs of relief, and the futures built stronger because someone believed in the power of kindness,” stated Dewine.
