     Eugene G. Saloga, 86, a resident of East Sixth Street, in Oswego, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, in the Oswego Hospital.

     Mr. Saloga was born in Oswego, a son of the late Gustav and Julia (Doersam) Saloga.
     He attended Syracuse University, graduating with a degree in geology.
     For 23 years, he served as a member of the Air National Guard, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
     From 1958 to 1967, Mr. Saloga served as supervisor for the city of Oswego's 8th ward.
     In 1974, he was appointed as executive assistant to Oswego Mayor Walter Lazarek.
     In 1976, Mr. Saloga was appointed Oswego Community Development Director by Mayor Jack FitzGibbons. He also served in that position under Oswego Mayors John T. Sullivan, Terrence Hammill and John Gosek, retiring in 2000. In 2006, for his accomplishments, he received the Rhea Eckel Clark Citizenship Award from the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board.
     Mr. Saloga was a former president of Operation Oswego County and of the New York State Supervisors and County Legislators Association. He was a former chairman of the Oswego County Planning Board. In addition, he was a former member of the Oswego City School District Board of Directors, the Oswego City Library board, and the Oswego City Planning Board.
     He had served as a county and state director for the New York State Soil and Water Conservation Commission, and as member of the St. Lawrence Eastern Ontario Water Commission. Mr. Saloga was also a member of the Oswego Kiwanis Club and belonged to the Retired Officers Association, the VFW and the American Legion. In 2005, he was named Veteran of the Year.
     Mr. Saloga is survived by a cousin, Mary O'Malley of Geneva; and a nephew, Carl Saloga of New York City.

     He was predeceased by his wife Juliene (Doyle) Saloga, who died Feb. 14, 2013; and by his brother, Carl Saloga.
     Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, in St. Peter's Church.
     Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum, St. Peter's Cemetery.There will be no calling hours.
     Arrangements are in care of the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
