Winona Forest Recreation Association will host its in-person Festival of Flakes Weekend March 6 and 7 at Winona State Forest.

The IditaFAT, one of the largest winter fat bike events in the U.S., begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, and the SnoFatShu, the first winter duathlon of its kind, kicks off at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Registration for all events is capped at 50 competitors each and is sold out. The IditaFAT offers distances of 12k, 25k, or 50k depending on conditions. The SnoFatShu consists of alternating courses on snowshoe and fat bike, and also comes with a variety of distance options.

Events launch from the CCC Camp at Winona Forest off County Route 90, about six miles east of Mannsville exit #39 off I-81. Face coverings, social distancing and other COVID preventive measures will be observed.

Organizers and outdoor adventurers will be available for interviews before, and after, the events.
