On Sunday, December 20th, Squared Circle Wrestling had its final two shows at Pastime Athletic Club in Syracuse, New York.
Squared Circle Wrestling, also known as 2CW was an independent wrestling company that had been running for ten years. Over the years, the company had come to Oswego countless times and was last in Oswego this past summer.
The entire night, fans had been chanting "2-C-DUB 2-C-DUB." Chris Beshures, a fan of 2CW said that "I have mixed feelings, it was an awesome show, and awesome performance by everyone. Just a downer it is the last time." The final shows were sold out. For those who could not make the show it was available for free online which had done 10,582 views.
Many professional wrestlers paved the way for 2CW's success including Oswego native "Studley" Steve McKenzie. McKenzie, along with retired tag team partner Steve Kruz had been with 2CW since the very first show. Both quoted that their favorite memories with the company were their four-years feud with All Money and wrestling WWF Legends Demolition. McKenzie stated, "Career highlight is being in the main event of The Big Event with Mick Foley as the special guest referee in front of 1000+ fans." For 2CW, The Big Event was their first show in a baseball stadium in Watertown, New York. McKenzie admitted that the closing of 2CW is not the end of his career and that he will now have to travel further for matches. Kruz stated, "Squared Circle Wrestling brought in top talent, and it will take a lot for another company to match what 2CW had done."
Another local wrestler out of Rochester, Colin Delaney, who once wrestled for WWE under the revamped ECW, stated about his career, "I'll keep wrestling, I also teach people how to wrestle." At the end of his match, an emotional Delaney grabbed the mic and stated how he is going to miss being in the locker room with everyone
One of the hottest tag teams, Matt, and Nick of The Young Bucks and their partner, AJ Styles. The Young Bucks and Styles (together known as the Bullet Club) have wrestled all over the world. Currently, The Young Bucks have signed contracts with Ring Of Honor, and this would be their last independent show. The Young Bucks and AJ Styles defeated Sean Carr, Jay Freddie and Pepper Parks Matt stated that "Many of the most successful wrestlers in the industry have passed through 2CW. In ways, it always felt like its own territory, working upstate New York meant wrestling for 2CW. This is a huge loss for independent wrestling." Nick stated, "We love the 2CW fans. Never say never, I hope that's true for 2CW." The Young Bucks were the final tag team champions and promised to bring the 2CW titles all over the world and post pictures of them online.
A friend of The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega who has wrestled all over the world and widely popular in Japan as part of New Japan Pro Wrestling, stated, "My beginning and end is the final run for 2CW. Feeling the energy of the crowd, I'm glad I made the trip."
Another notable superstar part of the final show was one-half of the current TNA Tag Team Champions, Eddie Edwards. Edwards defeated Johnny Wrestling in a singles match. Edwards said, "It's bittersweet, and it's a killer show and I'm sad to see it go."
The 2CW Heavyweight Champion Sami Callihan went out as the 2CW final champion. Callihan said, "I'm glad my timing with WWE ended so I could come back to 2CW." Callihan defeated Dalton Castle to retain the title.
The final show ended with J.D Love, owner and promoter of 2CW thanking everyone who has ever been part of 2CW.
