The coldest winter in over 100-years has left the Oswego harbor locked in with over 4 feet of packed snow and ice making it impossible for participants to safely enter the water for this weekend's 3rd Annual Oswego Polar Plunge for Special Olympics.

Assistant Chief, John Chawgo from the Oswego Fire Department and Lt. Charlie Searor from the Oswego Police Department immediately jumped into action on Monday to save the 3rd Annual Oswego Polar Plunge. Working with Special Olympics staff, volunteers and the City of Oswego, an alternate plan has been implemented.... the "Ultimate Polar Shower". Participants will still be "FREEZIN' FOR A REASON" with the Oswego Fire Department showering the crowd from top of a fire truck ladder.

"Determination is a huge part of Special Olympics" said Cassandra Rucker the Director of Development for Central Region. "Our Town of North Hempstead Polar Plunge faced similar challenges back on March 7th and we will be following in the footsteps, and rise to the occasion in support of our local athletes. Mother Nature will not put the freeze on FREEZIN' FOR A REASON."

Over 300 participants are expected to take the Oswego Polar Plunge including teams already registered; Oswego City Pol"ice", RAK it ON, Alpha Epsilon Pi, Oswego Fire Department, Arc of Oswego County, and Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 73.

Registration is open at www.PolarPlungeNY.org/Oswego .Participants raising $100+ receive a FREE official Polar Plunge sweatshirt.
