The City of Oswego continues to work on designing and funding a permanent solution to the unstable portion of the Riverwalk known as the High Wall.
The City has retained an engineering consultant to perform necessary analysis to determine the magnitude of the additional damage and possible solutions.
The City also plans on pursing additional FEMA and hazard mitigation funds to address this area to provide safe fishing access for years to come.
Unfortunately, these things take time to diagnose and solve.
While efforts continue to remedy this area, we are working to raise awareness about public access of the Oswego River’s west bank south of the Utica Street bridge. The section of riverwalk on either side of Bridie Manor is now open following repairs over the last year; however, a small section behind the U.S. Post Office on West First Street (NYS Rt. 48), remains closed as the City of Oswego and its contractors work to assess additional damage found.
Please take note of the open fishing areas in the provided graphic.
This map shows the closed area as well as a public parking lot now open to provide anglers better access to the Oswego River. The City has made public parking available at the former Leon Shapiro Motors car dealership, 410 W. First St., located across from the public parking lot south of the post office.
We recognize the frustration this can cause to anglers. We appreciate the public's patience as we work towards a sustainable solution.
