Write a commentThe Fitzhugh Park Elementary School's “Crafting for the Cure” proved to be a tremendous success as students gathered after school to design and construct a variety of craft items that culminated with a generous donation of over $1,000 to the Golisano Children’s Hospital and Oswego Oncology.
The students had raised some funds within the building during the annual carnival and other smaller event. However, the major effort concluded as they brought their crafts to the Oswego Farmers' Market and they attracted plenty of interest and support.
Teacher Chris Haessig had been approached by a couple of students who were interested in “Crafting for a Cure” and what started out as a small project blossomed to a substantial number of students who spent hours after school contributing to the worthwhile effort.
”Our experience at the Farmers' Market was a complete success and we were able to exceed our goal of $1,000," Haessig said. "Golisano Children’s Hospital and Oswego Oncology each were given $509.
“Golisano plans to use the money to buy the latest, most desired DVD’s, books and children’s toys for their young patients," Haessig said. "Oswego Oncology is using their money in a different way. They will add it to ‘The Mary and Charlie Haney Cancer Giving Endowment” as this fund was created to make a difference in the lives of needy Oswego County Cancer patients. I am just so proud of my students and their dedication to aid the cause.”
