Write a commentAccording to a recent national report, low basic skills in literacy and numeracy are more common now in the United States than on average across participating countries.
One in five adults in the U.S. have low literacy skills and nearly one third have weak numeracy skills. Adults in the U.S. fared less well with "problem solving in technology-rich environments" than the cross country average.
Through a collaborative project with Oswego Economic Development Corps, Oswego County Opportunities, Catholic Charities and the Oswego County Department of Social Services, free Financial Literacy courses are being offered to help individuals in our community to better understand and improve their finances. Topics covered will range from creating a budget, opening and understanding bank accounts, credit history and reports as well as information on pre-paid versus credit cards. For those attending the class, be sure to bring your monthly income information and monthly expenses.
These courses are available at Catholic Charities which is located at 365 W.
