On Wednesday, City officials were notified by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) of a spill in the Oswego Harbor that was believed to be coming from
Oswego Harbor Generating Station.

The City of Oswego is working with the U.S. Coast Guard and DEC as well as management of Oswego Harbor Generating Station to stop the leak of fuel oil and limit the spread.

Mayor Barlow said, “Clean water in Oswego Harbor and Lake Ontario are critically important to our residents and wildlife.” He went on to say, “We will do our part to ensure that the oil spread is limited and that as much of the fuel that can be captured is.”

The City has closed the lower trail of Breitbeck Park to allow contractor work to continue to capture oil residue that was released. The City asks that residents and trail visitors allow this important work to continue unobstructed.
