The City of Fulton received a grant in the amount of $61,500 from New York State through the Consolidated Funding Application process to complete a feasibility study to help the city develop multi-use trails throughout the city.
This study will assist the city in developing potential strategies for connecting existing parks, waterways, and neighborhoods including future cultural, recreational and economic development for the Oswego River and Lake Neatahwanta. The City of Fulton worked in tandem with the Fulton Footpaths Committee, a subcommittee of Fulton Community Revitalization Corporation, to secure the grant.
"We are thrilled to receive word that this funding was awarded. We are grateful to the City of Fulton officials, to the mayor, the councilors, to the Regional Economic Development Council, to Fulton Community Revitalization Corporation, and to all of our elected officials and the community groups and individuals that supported this project throughout the past year," said Fulton Footpaths Co-Chairs Marie Mankiewicz and Brittney Jerred. "This is an exciting time for Fulton and planning out the trail improvements will help position Fulton to secure future construction dollars."
"The city is grateful to receive this funding and to Fulton Footpaths for their initiatives. This study is the first step to helping the city plan and develop multi-use trails in Fulton and improve public access to our waterways for city residents. I also think it will improve the quality of life here for residents and be a catalyst for future economic development efforts. I hope the trails along our waterways and better defined trails throughout our city helps draw more tourists to the area who want to visit Indian Point and Bullhead Point and our new beach at Recreation Park slated to open next summer," said Mayor Ron Woodward. "We look forward to having the public's input as this process begins," added Woodward.
