On Friday, September 30, 2016, George Robert Ball Sr., passed away at Upstate University Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 76 years.
George was born at Oswego Hospital on June 1, 1940 to George Edward Ball and Sophia Marie (Saber) Ball. He lived his entire life in Oswego except for the years 1958 to 1962, when he served in the United States Air Force.
In 1965, he met and married the love of his life, Dolores May (Murray) Ball, who predeceased him in 1995. He looked forward to the day he would be with her again.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed, for 17 years, with the Oswego City School District. He had formerly worked, for 30 years, as a laborer with Local #214. He was a member of the American Legion, and the VFW Post #5885.
Along with his wife, he was also predeceased by his parents; his step-father, Joseph Golas Sr.; his siblings, Donell Kenney, Lyle Kenney, Dorothy (Kenney) Sears, Edna (Kenney) Bauer, Elizabeth (Ball) Verdoliva, Joseph Golas Jr, and Kay (Golas) Dunsmoor.
He is survived by his children, whom he loved and always put first, George (Maureen) Ball Jr. of Hannibal, Michelle (William) Connolly of Oswego, and Arthur Ball of Oswego; his grandchildren, Johnna and Renee Ball, Khristian and Maxwell Fischer, and Devin, Jakob, Sarah, and Maggie Ball. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles (Patricia) Ball Sr. of Oswego; his sister, Lucille (Richard) Dasans of Oswego; and many nieces and nephews.
George and his family had the wonderful opportunity to be blessed by the most compassionate and caring people during the difficult fight. They wish to extend their sincerest and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Paul Aridgides and his entire staff; Dr. Rahul Seth and the oncology staff at Oswego Hospital; Dr. Carlos Dator for not only being a physician, but also a great friend; and especially to all of the medical staff at Upstate University Hospital in the Emergency Room, the ICU unit, and the Oncology unit.
Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Instead, the family will have a private celebration of life.
If you wish to honor his life, the family asks that you consider making a donation in his name to the Charles and Mary Haney Fund at Oswego Hospital; The Upstate Cancer Center; or to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are in care of the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Oswego.
