Born in Oswego, he was a graduate of Hannibal High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Gerald was employed with Oswego Hospital for 13 years as an OR Technician in surgery. He was a prankster at heart and an avid Fox News observer. He will be missed in many ways.
He was a beloved father to Carrie Scharf; husband to Renate Scharf; grandfather to Abby Lynn Butler; a son to Donald Scharf and the late Susan Scharf; a brother to Stephen Scharf, Joseph Scharf and Dawn Knopp; and a loving and caring family member and friend to many.
A mMemorial Mass will be held 9 a.m., Saturday, May 18, at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church.
Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, May 17, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
