For more than 150 years Grace Lutheran Church in Oswego has been much more than a place of worship. Its spacious halls have hosted countless parish and community events, from craft shows and bake sales to dinners and parties.
Having recently concluded an extensive remodeling project Grace Lutheran Church has been literally refurbished from top to bottom. The church’s steeple and bell tower, a fixture of the Oswego’s eastside skyline, received a complete make over as did the exterior doors and trim and the church’s interior.
President of the Grace Lutheran Parish Council John Zanewych explained that while the extensive exterior improvements have made the church more esthetically pleasing, it’s the remodeling of the church’s interior that will have the most impact on the parishioners as well as the community.
“We have completely remodeled our basement and made a 150 year old unusable basement into a 1,836 sq. ft. functional hall that can be used for a variety of purposes,” said Zanewych. “Additionally our upstairs hall, which is 2,064 sq. ft. and can accommodate 242 people, is equipped with a full kitchen and has a seating capacity of 113 people. The room also features a 258 sq. ft. stage. We recently hosted a craft fair and our parishioners are excited about hosting future events not only for our parish but community member as well.”
Zanewych said that the halls are available for community use and can be rented on a daily or longer basis. “If individuals or organizations are looking for space for their events we are willing to work with them. Our parishioners are closely connected to the community. We have hosted food and clothing distributions, assisted with cooking and serving meals at the Salvation Army, and helped to sponsor the annual Blessings in a Back Pack project that provides school age children in need with a back pack filled with food. Sharing our space and making our halls available is another way in which we can connect with the community in a positive way and invite community members to come in and see this magnificent structure,” stated Zanewych.
