The Port of Oswego Authority (POA) has contracted with W. D. Malone Trucking and Excavating of Hannibal to perform the nearly $4 Million project.

The work will focus on repairing and improving the Port’s West Terminal Pier, with project funding coming in from FEMA, the State of New York, and the POA.

“We’re so grateful to everyone for the support,” said William Scriber, executive director and CEO of the Port of Oswego Authority. “We were hoping to start this project over a year ago, so we’re ready to get the work started.”

Among officials on-site Tuesday for the ceremonial groundbreaking was Mayor Rob Corradino. “Anytime the City of Oswego can collaborate with the Port to improve our waterfront, I’m in,” said Corradino.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were: Kathleen Macey, POA board secretary and treasurer; Stan Delia, POA board; Austin Wheelock and Alexandra Fitzpatrick of Operation Oswego County; Kevin Malone of W. D. Malone Trucking and Excavating; Taylor Davis of the Greater Oswego Fulton Chamber of Commerce; Bridget Dolbear of the Chamber’s Ambassadors Committee; and Bekkah Frisch of iHeart Oswego.

The work contract will cover the installation of 308 linear feet of steel sheeting to surround existing timber cribbing, as well as the replacement of the pier’s concrete cap. The asphalt along the pier’s north end is also slated to be resurfaced.

According to a U.S. / Canadian research study, the Port has generated $201.2 million in wages, salaries, and local consumption expenditures for the regional economy over the past five years, supporting 2,229 jobs with its maritime activity.
