Field days put on by area fire departments are getting harder to find, so we searched out the best field days and similar events happening this summer.

The weekend of July 18-20, Mexico is holding their annual Field Days right on Main Street. Come for the great food, like fish dinner Friday and chicken BBQ on Saturday. Plus, the kids can enjoy rides from Ontario Amusements. Field hours are Thursday, July 18 and Friday, July 19, 5pm to midnight; and Saturday, July 20, noon to midnight.

The Parish Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its Olde Home Day on Saturday, August 3, featuring the 10th Mountain Division Band. They’re also planning a vendor show with over 50 crafters and vendors, plus food trucks, local musicians, community groups, and much more. It’ll be a don’t-miss event!

Williamstown was the only other fire department we talked to that was planning a traditional field days event. Their annual shindig includes bands, chicken BBQ, and ride and food specials… not to mention free parking! Their event is happening at the Williamstown Fire Station on State Route 13 the weekend of July 25-27.

For some of our readers that event may be a bit of a drive, but not to worry! The last weekend of July is also Harborfest weekend in Oswego. That annual celebration will center around Breitbeck Park and include plenty of local music, delicious treats, and rides, offering vibes similar to many field day events. Harborfest will run from Thursday, July 25 to Sunday, July 28 this year. And, 2024 is Harborfest’s 35th anniversary in Oswego—we can’t wait to see what festivities are being planned to mark the occasion!

Fair Haven has rides from Ontario Amusements this weekend (July 4-6th). That overlaps with opening day of the Sterling Renaissance Festival this Saturday, just a few minutes’ drive outside of Fair Haven. The Ren Faire is entering its 48th season this year and runs each weekend from 10am to 7pm until August 18, rain or shine.

The Oswego County Fair is back in Sandy Creek for the long 4th of July weekend. Stop in to enjoy family-friendly fun like rides, music and plenty of delicious food to savor! Fireworks will be held on Saturday, July 6 at 9:30pm. Notable items on the schedule tonight include truck pulls at 4pm, and live music from Kickin’ Up Dust Trio tonight.

The City of Oswego is planning its Independence Day Parade and Block Party this Sunday, July 7, with the parade taking place on Bridge Street at 1pm. The block party runs from 2pm to 10pm on West 1st Street, and will feature music from John McConnell and Frostbit Blue. Fireworks will be launched at 9:45pm over the river from the pedestrian bridge.
