Head Start Pre-K is accepting enrollment applications for the 2013-2014 school year.

In the Oswego City School District, Head Start Pre-K offers both a 3 ½-hour class with morning and afternoon sessions, as well as a 6-hour class. The program's goal is promoting school readiness through hands-on learning experiences, active play, and nutritious meals and snacks. Classes are taught by teachers with degrees and experience in early childhood education. Centers are also staffed by family advocates, teaching assistants, classroom aides, cooks, and nurses. Head Start looks to partner with families and encourages parent involvement.

Those who would like to be considered for initial class placement are encouraged to apply early. Families may apply for enrollment by attending "Application Day" from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, at the Head Start Center located at Bldg 31, Fort Ontario, 45 E. Schuyler St., Oswego. Families may also call 342-0629 or 598-4711 to schedule an application time. Waiting lists are maintained for openings that may occur throughout the school year.

Head Start Pre-K enrolls 3- and 4-year-old children and is provided at no cost to families with incomes at or below federally set guidelines. Head Start is the longest running national school-readiness program in the United States. In Oswego County, Head Start Pre-K enrolls 248 children at eight centers located throughout the county.
