Robert Kolsters presents “Looking Back at Fair Haven Beach State Park” as the next installment of “History on Tap” on Tuesday, July 1.
The discussion takes place at 7 p.m. in the Riverview Room at G.S. Steamers Restaurant, located in the Clarion Inn, 70 E. First St., Oswego. Admission is free for the event, which is open to the public.
The presentation focuses on the history of Fair Haven Beach State Park in celebration of its upcoming 100th anniversary in 2027. Author Robert Kolsters will discuss photographs from his upcoming book, “Looking Back at Fair Haven Beach State Park.” The story begins prior to the state’s inception of the park in 1927 and follows the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the creation of the German POW camp in the park during World War II and more.
“Looking Back at Fair Haven Beach State Park” is Kolsters’ fourth book exploring Fair Haven’s history. His latest book annotates the history of Fair Haven’s development as a port starting in 1828 and follows its railroads from their creation through their demise.
Kolsters has been collecting photographs and researching the history of Fair Haven, N.Y. for 30 years. His books are available on his website, https://www.fhhistory.org/.
Attendees of “History on Tap” are invited to bring photos of the park or discuss any memories they wish to share.
