Hollis M. Mellen, 85, a resident of Oswego, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Morning Star Nursing Home.
Born in Mexico, he was a son of the late Michael and Blanche (Anson) Mellen.
Hollis was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1944-1946.
He worked as a machine operator at the Carrier Corporation for 39 years, retiring in 1988. He previously worked for the Oswego Candy Company.
He was a charter member of the Oswego Sportsmen 35 Club Incorporated. He enjoyed hunting and camping in the north. He was a member of the American Legion 268, VFW 5885, and the Hibernians in Oswego.
Surviving is his wife, Marilyn (Smith); three daughters, Deborah (David) Shannon and Diane (Jon Secrest) Henry, both of the town of Oswego, and Mary Elizabeth (James) Gardner, of Syracuse; one brother, Harlow Mellen, of Baldwinsville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Steven; and nine brothers and sisters.
Services and burial will be held in the spring at the Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 We. Albany St., in Oswego, with a service to follow.
