There are many holidays that go unnoticed throughout the year, such as National Ice Cream Day on July 21st, National Dance Like a Chicken Day on May 14th, or National Wear Pajamas to Work Day on April 16th.
This year, the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will be celebrating National Honey Bee Day on Saturday, August 17th at 10:00 a.m. – one of those forgotten holidays!
Every year, the third Sunday in August is National Honey Bee Day. This is a day of awareness for honey bees when beekeepers and honey bee enthusiasts from across the U.S. celebrate honey bees. They recognize the bees contribution to our everyday lives as a means of protecting this important and critical species. Join the environmental educator at the Center to celebrate these hardworking pollinators, learn more about the importance of pollination from all species, what you can do at home to help these species, and try some honey from local farms. Please note this program is intended for individuals to learn about honey bees, not how to become a beekeeper – there will not be a beekeeper at this program, only the environmental educator presenting from an ecological/natural resources perspective.
The fee for this program is only $4 per person, or $12 for a family. Children under the age of three are free! The recommended age for this program is 5+.
All youth must be accompanied by an adult. Find registrations and more information on this program and others at http://thatscooperativeextension.org/events. Even if you are unable to attend the programs, trails at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center are open from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. There is no parking fee, and there is a map of the trails when you arrive.
