This publisher’s description of I Wish promises audiences will have a ball with this delightful fairy’s tale presented by CNY Arts Center Theatre students after 3 weeks of preparation at ARTY Summer Camp. Under the direction of Camp Teachers Jessica Tetro and Adam Schmidtmann, campers are rehearsing lines, designing costumes and creating their own set and props for a complete theatre experience.
A free performance open to the public at the Arts Center, 11 river Glen Dr., will be presented one night only, Friday, July 29 at 6pm. The Evening Showcase will highlight the work of all children in the first 3 weeks of camp which includes visual and culinary arts at a second location. A silent movie created by the kids under the direction of Jennifer Gordon will also be shown along with an art show exhibiting the art work made by students in the visual arts classes.
Arty Camp continues through August 19 with a creative selection of art classes to choose from, including a full week of painting with Don Gillespie, a weekly drawing for culinary tools for students enrolled in Culinary class, and the popular Jungle Book as the featured play for the second 3 week session of Theatre Camp.
Free lunch and art projects are still offered for any child in the county from noon to 2pm at the Downtown location at 47 S. First St. Thanks to several generous grants received, scholarships are available and parents are encouraged to ask for assistance if needed.
Making scholarships available to children to offset the cost of camp is very important to CNY Arts Center with a goal of one in four children receiving at least partial assistance. Scholarships are made possible with funds from the New York Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by CNY Arts. Additional funds are raised through the Don Gillespie Scholarship fund, The John Ben Snow Foundation and the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation.
