Now that the State Officials have cut the ribbon on the new interpretive center, the Friends of the Sterling Nature Center are planning a grand opening for everyone on Sunday, June 2nd from 11:00 to 4:30 as part of our Inspiration event.
Inspiration: A Festival of Art and Nature, now in its 24th year, was organized by the center’s first director, John Weeks, back when the center was based in the old farmhouse.
Over the years, the festival has been a staple of good music, poetry, and great nature.
This year, the center is using Inspiration as a chance to have a special celebration for our Friends of the Sterling Nature Center and the general public who have supported the center for the past 25 years. Also, Inspiration 2024 will honor longtime “friend,” Don Cox, and many others who contributed to making the Sterling Nature Center a reality.
Inspiration 2024 will once again feature a day of music, a children’s tent, a Crafts Fair, an art exhibit, a silent auction, and food by Fast and Fusion. This year’s festival will feature the dynamic sounds of the Oswego Jazz Project, SUNY Oswego’s faculty jazz group presenting a concert of original compositions and jazz standards. The award-winning members of the quartet are recording artists and University professors known for their innovative improvisations. Back by popular demand, will be local favorites, The Ukuladies. Additionally, singer, songwriter, Megan Hook “Bright Forever” will be performing.
Come out on June 2nd and visit our new center and enjoy a day of music and glorious natural beauty.
The Sterling Nature Center is located in northern Cayuga County on Jensvold Road, one mile north of the Sterling Renaissance Festival. For more information, email snc@cayugacounty.us, or find us on Facebook or call the center at 315-947-6143.
