Jack L. Blum, 92, of Oswego and Vero Beach, FL passed away peacefully Thursday morning, April 25, 2024, at St. Luke’s Health Services.
Jack was born in Oswego to the late Charles and Beryl (LeRoy) Blum and lived there until he honorably served in the U.S. Army alongside his brother Jerry. Following his service, Jack was a welder and a U.S. Rural Letter Carrier in Oswego before making his way to the sunshine state to enjoy his retirement.
Jack lived life by his own rules and left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was not just a character, he was the author of his own story, crafting each chapter with humor and a zest for life. Whether he was teeing off at the golf course, aiming for a strike at the bowling alley or with his friends at the American Legion, Jack lived for the moment, never conforming to anyone else’s idea of how to enjoy life.
Jack is survived by his brothers Don Blum and Chuck (Sonnie) Blum, and his children, Mike (Cheryl) Blum, Jack (Lisa) Blum, Kate (Mike Reno) Blum, Maggie (Joe Barry) Blum, Nykki (Joel) Neace, his ten grandchildren, Eric, Evan, Audrey, Lindsey, Kristin, Sarah, Scott, Elizabeth, Kyle and Katja, and his ten great grandchildren. Jack was predeceased by his brothers Jerry and Bill, and sister Betty Roy.
Perhaps Jack’s greatest legacy lies in the way he embraced his roles as father, grandfather, great grandfather. His unique brand of humor and his refusal to take life too seriously created a legacy that will be cherished.
Jack’s laughter may have faded from this world, but his spirit will continue to inspire us all, leaving behind the reminder to “do it my way,” just as he did.
Calling hours to honor Jack’s life will be held at Dain-Cullinan Funeral home in Oswego on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00.
Contributions in his memory can be made to the American Legion Post #39, 1535 Old Dixie Highway, Vero Beach, FL, 32960.
