James Joseph Yeager, 78, a life resident of Oswego, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, at his home.
Jim was born in Oswego, the son of the late Joseph Yeager and Gladys (Bailey) Van Horn.
He was a veteran of the US Army, and served two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an automotive mechanic with Shapiro Motors in Oswego, with the Laborers Union, and was the former owner of Veterans Taxi Service, which he operated for several years in Oswego.
Jim loved music, and was a well-known guitarist with several area groups over the years, including The Country Showmen. He was a two-time inductee into the Oswego Music Hall of Fame.
He was a member of VFW #5885, and the Oswego American Legion. He had formerly served as the Commander of VFW #2320 in Oswego.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Dennise Stone; and a grandson, James Tyler Stone.
He is survived by three brothers, Francis (Gigi) Yeager of Florida, Richard (Theresa) Yeager of Texas, and Dennis Yeager of Oswego; two sisters, Mary “Susie” (Norbert) Woodard of Oswego, and Patricia (Donald) Owen of Oswego; two grandchildren, Micayla (Jennifer) Kelly of Parish, and Caitlin Stone of Oswego; two great-grandchildren, Emmilia and Kai; an aunt, Hazel Dopp of Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Friday, April 5th from 3:00 to 6:00, with a service to follow at 6:00, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home in Oswego.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
