Jane Powers Benson, formerly of Syracuse, died on Tuesday, March 25th, at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego.
Jane was born in Albany, New York, the second daughter of the late Walter M. and Estelle (Hayden) Powers. After the family moved to Oswego, Jane graduated from St. Mary's School and, in 1936, from Oswego High School. She received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Business Education from Syracuse University, where she was a member of the business honor society. She began her teaching career at Oswego High School and later retired from Solvay High School.
Besides her parents, Jane was predeceased by her son, Robert Walter Benson; her husband, John Gillette Benson; and her sister, Anne Powers Riley.
She is survived by her nieces Monica Riley Byrne (Jim) of Longwood, Florida; Martha Riley Andreo of Bedford, New Hampshire; and Meg Riley Schneider (Jim) of Oswego; and their families. She is also survived by several other nieces and nephews, Peter (Andrea) Benson, Cathy (Terry) Smith, Linda Noyes, Marilyn Noyes, Barbara Benson, Beverly Benson, Tom Benson, James Benson, and Sally Benson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 Friday, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Oswego. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call on the family from 9:45 to 10:30am Friday, prior to the funeral Mass, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke, especially those on the sixth floor, for their loving care of Jane.
