John Francis Hibbert, Sr., 82, a resident of County Route 45 in the Town of Volney, passed away Thursday, at the Oswego Hospital.
Mr. Hibbert was born in Oswego, the son of the late Alfred and Cecilia (McMahon) Hibbert. He was a life resident of the area.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean War.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Hibbert was employed as a heavy equipment operator with the Port of Oswego Authority, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the International Longshoreman's Association (ILA Local 1570A).
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances Hibbert of Volney; six sons, John F. Hibbert, Jr. of North Carolina, David (Becky) Hibbert of Oswego, Gerald Hibbert of Oswego, Richard (BethAnn) Hibbert of New Jersey, Daniel Hibbert of Oswego, and Patrick (Heidi) Hibbert of North Carolina; two daughters, Donna Santoro of Oswego, and Nancy Reinhardt of Wisconsin; 19 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Earl, Edward, Richard, Joseph, and William; and a sister, Eda.
Funeral services will be private.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
