     John Howard McPherson, 78, of Oswego, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Friday, Nov. 30, 2012.

     Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was a son of the late Laura (Cutler) and Edwin McPherson.
     He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.
     He graduated from Erie Community College and was the owner of Port City Optical, in Oswego.
     He was involved in the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, an officer and coach for the Oswego Minor Hockey Association and member and past president of the Oswego Lion's Club.
     John is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Geraldine (MacDonald) McPherson; his children, John (Ronitta) McPherson, of Apalachin, Susan (Andrew) Lasnicki, of Hastings, Deborah (Bert) Petrie and Mark (Kim) McPherson, all of Oswego, and Kimberly (Lee) Willdridge, of Framingham, Mass.; his grandchildren, Laura (Michael) Valentino, Erica, Andrew and Stephanie Lasnicki, Michaela and Sarah Petrie, Adam and Allison McPherson, and Avery, Cameron and Addison Willdridge; three sisters, Mary Laura Raynor, of North Carolina, Margaret Dwyer and Dorothy Driscoll, of Illinois; a brother, William McPherson, of Arizona; 13 nieces and nephews; 12 grand-nieces and nephews; and one great-grand-niece.
     John was predeceased by his grandson, Nicholas McPherson.
     Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, from St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 50 E. Mohawk St.
     Calling hours will be from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St.
