UPDATE: This event has been CANCELED. Article announcing the cancellation is HERE.

Former Mayor John T. Sullivan Jr. will host and moderate “Oswego Debate 2015”. The mayoral debate will be held Tuesday, October 27th, at the Sheldon Hall Ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus.

This will be the second mayoral debate leading up to the 2015 mayoral election. It is expected that issues not addressed at the first debate may be discussed in this second forum.

Doors will open at 6pm and the debate will begin promptly at 7pm. Admission is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and will be available on a first-come/first-served basis. There will be free campus parking provided by SUNY Oswego, on three sides of Sheldon Hall. The map is located on the event website OswegoDebate.com.

Candidates Billy Barlow, Tom Gillen and Amy Tresidder have all been invited. Much attention has been paid to this mayoral race, as it will result in the election of the youngest-ever Oswego mayor, or the first-ever female Oswego mayor, or a second term for the incumbent Oswego mayor.

“This debate is born from Oswego's need to make the very best decision we can, when it comes to choosing our next mayor.” stated Phillip Gailinas, founder of iHeartOswego and the iHeart Corp. “Our city is at a crossroads; needing to choose the best path possible when it comes to the direction we take as a city and having to choose between three, very strong candidates.”

A request was made to iHeartOswego to put this event together in order to provide voters an additional chance to view the candidates before making a final decision on November 3rd. “This is also a great opportunity for SUNY Oswego students to experience an actual debate.” said Abby Refro, an iHeartOswego intern from SUNY Oswego, who is on the team coordinating the debate. Event planners expect the debate to last about 90 minutes.

Questions for the candidates to address at the debate will be solicited from community members and SUNY students.
