Joseph F. Dehm, 85, of Oswego, passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at University Hospital, Syracuse, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born March 13, 1928, in Oswego to Paul J. Dehm and Edna (Henderson).
He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Oswego High School.
He worked for P&C Food Market as the meat manager retiring after 40 years in 1990. He also worked for the city of Oswego as the sealer of weights and measures for a brief time.
Joe was elected to the Oswego Board of Education in 1964 and was re-elected several times serving until the 90s.
He also served 18 years of the Oswego County B.O.C.E.S. Board of Education. He was a life member of the Oswego B.P.O.E. and a member of the Quattrini Dehm Post.
His sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Don Hilfiger) Dehm, of Oswego; a son, Tom (Judy Izzo) Dehm, of Oswego; two grandchildren, Christopher Perry and Melissa Perry (Jim Burnett); a great-granddaughter, Emma Burnett; three sisters, his loving, caring brother, Paul; his wife, Jeannette; and several nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Mary (O'Gorman,) in 2003; two brothers, Tommy and David; and three sisters, Fran (Ennis), Sally (Saia) and Irene (Dehm).
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at St. Mary's Church.
Burial will be in Peck's Cemetery, Scriba.
Calling hours will be held 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
