Jason Simmons Racing and team partner Lindsey Aggregates have joined together to purchase the former Tim Devendorf Hawk Chassis Supermodified for driver Tyler Thompson, who currently leads Oswego Speedway’s Novelis Supermodified Rookie of the Year standings.
Built new in 2015, the former No. 5 Hawk Chassis will join the Jason Simmons Racing No. 98 stable, which already houses a former Graham Racing Supermodified.
The former Graham machine has carried Thompson to four top ten finishes at Oswego this season, but Simmons and Thompson have further Supermodified plans and the timing was right to make an addition.
“This would not be possible without the Warren Vandish family and Lindsey Aggregates,” said Simmons. “Warren shares our passion and enthusiasm for Supermodified racing and Oswego Speedway and we felt the time was right to make a move and build a stable to help Tyler (Thompson) continue to improve and be successful. We can’t thank Lindsey Aggregates and Warren enough for co-owning this venture with us.”
The JSR team took possession of the car the morning prior to Oswego Speedway’s Summer Championship on Saturday, July 14 and plans to test the car as soon as this coming week.
“We plan to get the car on track to test this week so Tyler can shake it down and see how it feels,” said Simmons. “Whichever car he feels better in will be the car we race in the Mr. Novelis Supermodified event at Oswego on Saturday, July 21. Depending on how everything works out, we plan to try some ISMA racing in the future with the second car, perhaps as soon as the Hy-Miler Nationals at Sandusky Speedway.”
Thompson, the 16-year old pilot from Fulton, NY, has adapted quickly to the high speeds of Supermodified racing and is eager to test his latest piece.
“First, I have to thank Warren Vandish and Lindsey Aggregates,” said Thompson. “They have been such great supporters of my racing both on the dirt and asphalt. It means a lot to be able to drive this car for Warren and my dad. I’m looking forward to testing the Hawk this coming week to see what it feels like at speed. I am very fortunate to have two fast race cars in the shop and I am excited to put our best foot forward for Oswego’s Mr. Supermodified event on July 21.”
This season’s consistent effort from Thompson and team sees the No. 98 now standing seventh in the overall Novelis Supermodified Driver’s Championship with 545-points, just 53-points from a top five position.
At the midway point of the season, Thompson also holds a 196-point lead in this year’s Rookie of the Year standings.
JSR and Thompson are also pleased to announce a new team sponsor for 2018 with Mid Country Machinery coming on board.
Based in Fort Dodge, IA, with a location in Syracuse, NY, Mid Country Machinery is a premier dealer in heavy equipment representing the Kobelco, Kawasaki, Gradall, Tiger Mowers, JLG, Hartl Powercrusher, and SkyTrak lines of equipment.
Further details on the partnership will be released next week.
