Raymond Jock, Executive Chef of La Parrilla on the Water, will provide the next Guest Chef Dinner for the Oswego County Salvation Army on Tuesday, June 27, serving from 4:30 to 6:00 P.M. or until the food runs out, for dining in or taking out, at the Worship and Service Center, 73 West Second Street, Oswego.

The menu for the evening will be La Parrilla house salad and dressing with chicken riggies. The Army’s Advisory Board will provide an assortment of desserts and beverages.

A discounted sheet of six tickets for the price of five will be available. The tickets may be purchased at any dinner and used in any combination at any of this year’s remaining three dinners.

La Parrilla – “the grill” – a Mediterranean style bistro, is located in the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center on the Oswego River, at 24 East First Street, Oswego. Chef Jock specializes in using fresh local ingredients seasonally to create traditional regional Spanish and Italian cuisine. His food has been acclaimed by The Post-Standard, Syracuse New Times, and many local diners known to this writer. Chef Jock grew up in Scriba and graduated from Oswego High School. He completed culinary school in Florida and then moved to Manhattan, where he worked for six years before becoming a personal chef to Jerry Seinfeld, Colin Powell, and others. His long-time dream of having his own restaurant in Oswego was realized in 2009, when he opened La Parrilla.

The Guest Chef Dinners are organized by the Advisory Board and offered to the community to raise funds for fresh-cooked meals in both Fulton and Oswego and other services that are provided to individuals and families in need throughout Oswego County. There is ample parking, and the building is fully accessible. Dinners may be enjoyed in our dining room or carried out.

Future Guest Chef Dinners this year will be provided through the generosity of the Zonta Club of Oswego on September 12, the Press Box on October 3, and Vona’s Restaurant on November 7. The food is donated, so all receipts go to the work of the Army.

The Guest Chef Dinners have been held six times each year for the past 16 years, except for 2020. Although early records are incomplete, 8,314 meals are known to have been served and more than $102,924 raised. The dinners are organized by the Salvation Army Corps Advisory Board and offered to the community to raise funds for fresh-cooked meals five days each week in both Fulton and Oswego, groceries from its food pantries, winter garments, and many other services to individuals and families in need throughout Oswego County.

In May, the Corps provided 699 soup kitchen meals in Oswego and 545 in Fulton. It provided 70 Oswego households with groceries for 1,494 meals and 96 Fulton households with groceries for 2,295 meals. It also distributed over 1,250 loaves of bread and pastries.

Anyone wanting more information or to offer service as a volunteer may call 315-343-6491 or stop at the office at 73 West Second Street, Oswego.
