Now that school is almost out, come explore the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center and see what programs are being offered this summer!

Saturday, June 1st, 2024, is the annual American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day®, which is all about exploring local or state trail systems, giving back to trails, and building a world where everyone has the ability to enjoy the outdoors. On June 1st at 10:00 a.m., join the celebration at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center and learn how to leave no trace when enjoying public, national, or state recreation areas. Starting in the Paul and Theresa Schoeck Education Building, the environmental educator and Leave No Trace Trainer will go over the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace and how anyone can play a role in keeping recreation trails pristine for generations to come. Then, the group will head outside for a late morning hike through the trails. Overall, this will be an educational and fun event for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts!

On Saturday, June 22nd at 9:30 a.m., returning is the popular Stream Safari program. The best way to learn about ecology is to be out in it! Learn about macroinvertebrates and other small animals that live in Rowell Brook by catching them with nets and cups. Everyone will have the opportunity to get their hands and feet wet using the Center’s equipment to catch crayfish, dragonfly nymphs, and so much more. It is recommended to wear or bring pants and waterproof shoes/boots.

The fee for these programs is only $4 per person, or $12 for a family. Children under the age of three are free! The recommended age for these programs is 5+.

All youth must be accompanied by an adult. Find registrations and more information on this program and others at http://thatscooperativeextension.org/events. Even if you are unable to attend the programs, trails at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center are open from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. There is no parking fee, and there is a map of the trails when you arrive.
