Write a commentKathryn E. Ptak, of Oswego, NY, passed away after a brief illness at Crouse Hospital on April 30, 2025.
Kathryn was born on November 14, 1941 to John Edward Hogan and Vivian Fern Ransier, in Syracuse, NY, and was one of 15 children.
Although suffering from a brain injury at the age of 3, she was able to overcome her physical and learning disabilities to graduate from Fitzhugh Park Elementary School in Oswego. Kathryn had a warm and generous heart, and although she never had children of her own, she spent her younger years helping her siblings care for her many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In 1980, she began work at General Motors in Syracuse and continued to work on the production line until her retirement in 1993. In 1984, Kathryn married her husband, Robert E. Ptak, and until his passing in 2005, enjoyed camping on Lake Ontario, fishing and spending time with their pals at the VFW in Oswego.
In later years, and with her health failing, she enjoyed drawing, watching scary movies, crossword puzzles and visits at the nursing home from family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Kathryn was predeceased by her 14 siblings. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, in-laws, her cherished friends Betty and Marilyn, and her roommate, Veronica.
In accordance with Kathryn’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Services will be private.
Arrangements are in the care of the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Oswego.
