Write a commentKingsford Park Elementary School students were honored during a recent school assembly because they exhibited kindness throughout the month of October.
A total of 31 students were recognized by their classroom or special area teachers in the school gymnasium, where they each received a certificate, cheers and applause in front of the entire student body. First-grade teacher Ashley Malchoff emceed the event and made sure every KPS student knew that they, too, were special and everyone should show love and kindness.
United in kindness, a paper chain displayed 400 acts of kindness observed by classmates that were written on strips of colored paper and then linked to one another. Patience with others, hugs and friendships were a few of the many examples of kindness.
After the kindergartners collectively sang a song about kindness, the KPS Student Council members congratulated their peers and teachers on bringing in over 1,000 personal hygiene items, as part of the school’s Give-tober collection. All items will be distributed to KPS families in need. Fifth-grader Hunter Hort showed much kindness by donating his birthday money to purchase extra items for the effort and was selected as the student who garnered the most items for the cause. His prize was being able to pie Principal Mary Volkomer in the face, as she received the most votes from students. As a close runner-up, sixth-grade teacher Kristen Frost also was pied in the face.
Citizenship awards were given to the following students: Samuel Gfeller, Amy Greenlay, Carolina Dorsey, Noah Frost, Adalia Whiffen, Katie Auler, Connor Stepien, Avery Misztal, Aiyana Schute, Ali Brownell, Kara Pritchard, Rylee Leaf, Grace Gfeller, Connor Kingsley, Destiny Blake, Edyn Darling, Hunter Hort, Parker Steffen, Johnathon Crisafulli, Haley Richmond, Mya Roper, Alexia Prosser, Tori Deaver, Brody Dana, Kailyn Gardner, Madison Morse, Analiz Ruiz-Martinez, Dustin Yablonski, Autumn Tussey and Destiny Kleinginna.
