Fifth-grade students from Kingsford Park Elementary visited SUNY Oswego's Richard S. Shineman Center recently, for an educational field trip.

The Richard S. Shineman Center for Science, Engineering and Innovation is home to the college's new, state-of-the-art laboratories, observatories, and classrooms. As part of the college's 10-year expansion, the high-tech Shineman Center provides advanced opportunities for SUNY Oswego students within the fields of science, mathematics, engineering, and technology.

Charlene Walhert, the Shineman Center Building Manager, welcomed the 75 fifth-grade students from Kelly Moxley, Jessica Burridge, and Michelle Peterson's classrooms.

Three groups of 25 students each were guided through three educational presentations, including a Planetarium Show by Dr. Scott Roby, a Chemistry Show by Kristin Gublo, and a building tour – including greenhouse and robotics by Ms. Walhert.

The field trip to Shineman Center evoked students' interest and love for the sciences, stimulated their imaginations, and generated thoughts and dreams of their futures.
