18 Students, representing 6 Oswego County School Districts recently graduated from Leadership Oswego County Youth, a program of SUNY Oswego`s Office of Business and Community Relations.

A ten month program, Leadership Oswego County Youth (LOCY) combines classroom instruction, workshops, and a variety of activities that provide students with the skills needed to succeed as leaders in their school and in the future.

"The mission of LOCY is to inspire and develop young adults of Oswego County to be involved and effective leaders committed to using their talents and creativity to benefit our community," said LOCY Coordinator and Youth Activities Coordinator with the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, Dawn Metott. "Our facilitators, a diverse group of community professionals who are leaders in their own right, work closely to develop a challenging curriculum that focuses on taking responsibility for one's community."

Now in its 17th year, LOCY has graduated more than 260 students. Many of which have gone on to be a part of Oswego County Youth Court, Youth Advisory Council, and other youth development programs.

"It's interesting to see the growth LOCY students experience over the course of the program. They begin as a group of approximately 20 students who may only know one other person in the class, however by graduation they have developed into a tight knit group of confident and self-assured young adults. It's very rewarding to know that we, as facilitators, are inspiring tomorrow's leaders," added LOCY Facilitator, John DeRousie.
