iHeart Oswego is happy to announce the winner, and runner-ups, of the Lighted Lighthouse Photo Contest, which took place during Harborfest weekend.
Rocco Saya, an Oswego native, takes the prize with his stunning capture of the lighthouse with the pink heart, built by Kevin Rookey. According to Saya, capturing the beautiful photograph, titled “Serenity,” was no easy task.
“I took about 30 shots,” he said. “Some were of different angles and distances, wide angles versus zoomed in. I just took several ones until I got the right shot.”
Saya stood from the top of the bluff at Fort Ontario to capture the lighthouse. He said he used a tripod due to the low shutter speed he used to take the winning photograph.
Saya, who is a corporate trainer and software engineer at SpringSource, has been photographing different subjects as a hobby for four years.
“I’ve photographed a lot of nature like animals and bugs at Fallbrook as well as landscapes,” he said.
Although Saya enjoys photography, capturing that one perfect shot is not as easy as it may seem.
“You have to take several photographs before getting the best shot.”
The runner-ups for the photo contest are Katherine Lust’s “Live” and Brenda Dann’s “Lit.”
All images are not to be reproduced without the consent of the artists at any time.
iHeart Oswego thanks all participants of this photo contest as all submissions were breathtaking.
