Manuel was born to Martin Orta Moreno and Eloiza Martínez Herrera in Izucar de Matamoros, Puebla, México. Being one of 14 children and the oldest son, he moved to the United States and had six children, two daughters and four sons. He was happily married to Lonna Orta for 26 years. Manuel’s life in Oswego can be seen through the impact he had on people he met. He was a long-time employee of SUNY Oswego, starting in 1985 and retiring in 2020 and being most recognized on campus for being the helping truck driver. He never looked down on anyone on campus and helped anyone in need, students, professors, and other staff. He impacted the lives of many people throughout the years and was loved by many. During his lifetime Manuel was a avid fan of soccer and for many years, even up to his passing, helped the Owego Youth Soccer Association as a coach.

Throughout his life, Manuel enjoyed the little things, that included spending time with family, attending mass and giving advice to those who needed it. He believed that through God all things were possible, and no one was bad, they only needed to be loved and forgiven. During his life he made amends with everyone and only wished for people to get along. His final request was that God reserve even the smallest corner in Heaven.
